City High Cross Country Teams Shine at IMS Early Bird Meet

KALONA – The City High boys and girls cross country teams swept the team titles at the IMS Early Bird Cross Country Meet on Tuesday.

Both the City High boys and girls team had the top four individual finishers and cruised to the team title.

The City High boys claimed the team title with 16 points finishing 40 points in front of runner-up Cedar Rapids Jefferson.

City High’s Michael Berg won the individual title in 17:15.44 while teammate Matthew Dodge finished second in 17:36.09.

City High’s girls squad finished with 17 points to outdistance runner-up Washington.

Kinsee Brands won the individual girls title in 20:57.96 while Bridget Brown was second in a time of 21:01.32.

City High Sweeps Cedar Rapids Prairie

IOWA CITY – After four straight losses to ranked foes to open the season City High got into the win column on Tuesday and the Little Hawks did so in impressive fashion.

City High rolled past Cedar Rapids Prairie 25-20, 25-22, 25-21 in a Mississippi Valley Conference matchup at City High.

The Little Hawks improved to 1-4 on the season and 1-1 in MVC play while Prairie dropped to 3-2 and 0-2 in MVC matches.

Alexa Aldrich-Ingram led City High with 14 kills and added 14 assists and seven digs in the win.

Ellie Evans added nine kills for City High while Shannon James had eight kills and Shannon Stamp chipped in with seven.

Sydney Schroder had 20 assists for City High and James had three ace serves.

Grace Brown paced City High with 12 digs.

DES MOINES – City High opened the season on Tuesday with a conference match against a ranked opponent.

Things only got more challenging for the Little Hawks on Thursday.

Class 5A No. 15 City High (0-4) dropped three matches to ranked opponents at the Des Moines Roosevelt quadrangular on Thursday.

City High dropped matches to top-ranked Johnston 25-20, 16-25, 11-15, No. 12 Des Moines Roosevelt 25-22, 25-20 and fifth-ranked West Des Moines Valley 25-22, 28-26.

Alexa Aldrich-Ingram had a team-high 10 kills in the three-set loss to Johnston.

Shannon Stamp and Shannon James each had four kills against Johnston while Sydney Schroder added 12 assists and two ace serves.

Against Des Moines Roosevelt Aldrich-Ingram and Murphy each had five kills while Stamp added four.

James had three kills and two ace serves against Roosevelt while Schroder had a pair of ace serves.

In the finale against West Des Moines Valley Aldrich-Ingram led the Little Hawks with 10 kills.

Schroder had eight assists and Stamp had five kills against the Tigers.

City High drops Swim Dual

CEDAR RAPIDS – The City High girls swim team fell to Cedar Rapids Washington 124-62 in a Mississippi Valley Conference dual meet in Cedar Rapids on Tuesday.

Freshman Carly Weigel paced the Little Hawks on Tuesday winning a pair of individual races.

Weigel won the 100 freestyle in 57.44 and also won the 100 backstroke in 1:03.93.

Senior Andrea Adam won the diving competition with a score of 221.8.

Trinity Sadecky added a second place finish in the 200 freestyle in 2:08.55.
