City High Swimmers go 1-1 at Home Double Dual

City High split a Mississippi Valley Conference double dual with Cedar Rapids Washington and Waterloo on Tuesday at Mercer Park Aquatic Center in Iowa City.
The Little Hawks defeated Waterloo 109-61 and fell to Cedar Rapids Washington 89-81.
Freshman Forrest Frazier picked up a pair of individual titles to pace City High and was a part of a pair of first place relay teams for the Little Hawks.
Frazier won the 100 butterfly in 54.33 and the 100 backstroke in 54.0 and was a part of the winning 400 freestyle and 200 medley relay teams.
Junior Eric Thomas won the 200 IM in 2:05.73 and freshman Louis Stephan won the 100 breaststroke in 1:03.7 for City High.

City High Improves to 8-0 With Win over Cedar Rapids Jefferson

Stuck between a win over cross-town rival and third-ranked West High last week and the beginning of the holiday break, a matchup with Cedar Rapids Jefferson fit the category of a trap game for City High.
The second-ranked Little Hawks weren’t about to fall into that trap on Tuesday.
Ashley Joens poured in a game-high 27 points as City High closed the 2016 portion of its schedule unbeaten with a 65-42 win over Cedar Rapids Jefferson at City High.
The win was the eighth straight to open the season for City High while Cedar Rapids Jefferson dropped to 4-5 in a non-conference meeting of Mississippi Valley Conference members.
Aubrey Joens had 12 points and Rose Nkumu chipped in with 10 as nine different Little Hawks scored.
Kennedy Dighton led Cedar Rapids Jefferson with 13 points.

Ashley Joens Cracks 1,000 Career Points in Win over Dubuque Senior

City High picked up a win on Friday night and Ashley Joens made a little bit of history in the process.
Joens poured in a game-high 27 points to surpass the 1,000-point mark for her career as Class 5A second-ranked City High remained unbeaten with an 84-64 win over Dubuque senior.
Aubrey Joens added 19 points and Kenya Earl added 12 as City High improved to 7-0 on the season and 5-0 in Mississippi Valley Conference play.
With her 27 points on Friday Ashley Joens became the seventh player in City High history to reach 1,000 points and the first to do it as a junior.
Joens now has 1,010 points in 53 career games, an averaging of 19.1 points per game.
Hannah Bakey had 15 points to lead Dubuque Senior which dropped to 1-7 on the season and 1-4 in MVC play.

City High won its cross-town matchup with West High for the second straight season on Thursday night.
The Little Hawks didn’t have to wait long for round three.
City High defeated West High for the second time in as many days on Friday, downing the Trojans 41-30 in the third place match of the Bob Buckley Bracket at the Battle of Waterloo tournament.
The win over City High capped a 2-1 day for City High which defeated Charles City 59-18 in its opening match and fell to Class 3A No. 7 Waverly-Shell Rock 58-16 in the semifinals.
Joey Harney, Brock Hunger and Jacob Dykes all went 3-0 for City High.
City High will wrap up competition at the two-day event on Saturday.

Buckland's Title Leads City High to Runner-Up Finish in Cedar Rapids

Jordain Buckland won an individual title at 220 pounds to lift City High to a runner-up finish at the Five Seasons Invitational on Saturday at Cedar Rapids Kennedy.
Buckland record a pair of pins to win the 220 pound title, improving his season record to 10-0 as City High finished 2.5 points behind team champion Cedar Rapids Prairie with 192 points.
Michael Santoro (113), Bryan Berg (138) and Alex Kooker (145) all earned runner-up finishes for City High.
The Little Hawks also got third place performances from Lance Bormann (126), Joey Harney (132) and Jacob Murry (285) to edge host Cedar Rapids Kennedy for second place.

Jordain Buckland won an individual title at 220 pounds to lift City High to a runner-up finish at the Five Seasons Invitational on Saturday at Cedar Rapids Kennedy.
Buckland record a pair of pins to win the 220 pound title, improving his season record to 10-0 as City High finished 2.5 points behind team champion Cedar Rapids Prairie with 192 points.
Michael Santoro (113), Bryan Berg (138) and Alex Kooker (145) all earned runner-up finishes for City High.
The Little Hawks also got third place performances from Lance Bormann (126), Joey Harney (132) and Jacob Murry (285) to edge host Cedar Rapids Kennedy for second place.

City High Drops MVC Opener at No. 6 Cedar Falls

Following a trio of challenge non-conference games to open the regular season the level of difficulty went even high for City High on Friday.
City High fell to Class 4A sixth-ranked Cedar Falls 61-43 in its Mississippi Valley Conference opener on Friday in Cedar Falls.
Antonio Turner led City High (0-4, 0-1 MVC) with 15 points as the Little Hawks dropped their second straight game to a team that reached the state semifinals last year after falling to Pleasant Valley 40-27 on Tuesday.
Keyshawn Christian and Ry Threlkeld-Weigand each had eight points for City High which travels to top-ranked West High on Tuesday.

City High Crowns 3 Champs at Newton Cardinal Classic

City High had three individual champions on its way to a third place team finish at the Newton Cardinal Classic on Saturday in Newton.
Brock Hunger, Jacob Dykes and Jordain Buckland all won individual titles to help City High roll up 167 team points.
Johnston won the team title with 194 points followed by Indianola with 184 points.
Hunger went 4-1 on his way to the 182-pound title, pinning Camron Woodley of Mount Vernon in 34 seconds in the title match.
Dykes and Buckland both went 5-0 on their way to individual titles.
Buckland record four pins before winning a 1-0 decision over Mount Vernon’s Jack Cochrane in the 220-pound title match.
Dykes record a pair of pins on his way to winning the 195-pound title.
Kyle Hefley added a runner-up finish at 160 pounds while Alex Kooker placed third at 145 and Jack Anson was third at 138.

Freshman Aubrey Joens had a career-high 16 points to lift Class 5A fourth-ranked City High to a 61-36 win over Muscatine (1-3) on Saturday in a non-conference contest in Muscatine.
Aubrey Joens had six 3-pointers on her way to a game-high 18 points to lead three City High players in double figures as the Little Hawks improved to 3-0 on the season.
Kenya Earl had 14 points and freshman Rose Nkumu added 13 for City High.

It was the newcomers that lifted City High to a win in its season opener on Tuesday against tenth-ranked Linn-Mar.
On Friday, the Little Hawk’s veterans returned to center stage.
Ashley Joens and Kenya Earl combined for 38 points as Class 5A No. 4 City High rolled to a 67-37 win over previously unbeaten Cedar Rapids Kennedy in a Mississippi Valley Conference matchup in Cedar Rapids.
Joens scored a game-high 21 points and Earl added 17 as City High improved to 2-0 on the season and 2-0 in MVC play.
Freshman Rose Nkumu added 10 points and Christina Hora had eight for City High which built a 36-17 halftime lead and led 65-24 entering the fourth quarter.
Hailey Dolphin had 16 points to lead Cedar Rapids Kennedy (2-1).

City High Uses Balanced Scoring to Rally Past No. 10 Linn-Mar

Linn-Mar found a way to do something few teams have been able to do the past two seasons, slow down Ashley Joens.
City High showed in Tuesday’s season opener they are far from a one-person show.
One of top scorers in the state the past two seasons, Ashley Joens was held to 11 points while battling foul trouble but four other Little Hawks had at least eight points as fourth-ranked City High (1-0) rallied for a 55-47 win over No. 10 Linn-Mar (1-1) in the Mississippi Valley Conference opener for both teams in Marion.
Freshman Aubrey Joens led three City High players in double figures with 14 points while senior Sydney Schroder added 11 for City High (1-0).
Three freshman making their varsity debuts combined for 24 points for City High as Rose Nkumu had eight and Paige Rocca had two for the Little Hawks.
City High trailed 26-21 at halftime but outscored the Lions 34-21 over the final two quarters.
Senior forward Kenya Earl had eight of her nine points in the first half to keep City High within striking distance.

City High closed out Mississippi Valley Conference regular season play with a win on Tuesday.
Class 5A No. 12 City High defeated Dubuque Senior 25-6, 25-15, 25-13 in a MVC Valley Division matchup in Dubuque to improve to 17-12 on the season and 3-3 in MVC play.
Alexa Aldrich-Ingram led City High with 12 kills and 20 assists while Shannon James added eight kills.
Freshman Kelsey Law had six kills and Shannon Stamp added five kills for City High. Sydney Schroder has 12 assists and Kenzie Ribble had three ace serves.

Weigel, Lorenger Help City High down Cedar Rapids Jefferson

City High defeated Cedar Rapids Jefferson 106-77 in a Mississippi Valley Conference dual at the Mercer Park Aquatic Center on Monday.
Freshman Carly Weigel and junior Laura Lorenger both won a pair of individual events to lead City High and the Little Hawks won a pair of relay titles.
Weigel won the 200 freestyle in 2:01.71 and added a title in the 100 freestyle in 57.89. Lorenger won the 200 individual medley in 2:24.36 and also won the 100 breaststroke in 1:11.82.
Senior Devan O’Rourke added a first place finish in the 50 freestyle in 27.58 and junior Edie Knoop won the 100 backstroke in 1:10.3. Sophomore Beatrice Kearns won the 100 butterfly in 1:10.69.

City High Goes 4-2 at Bettendorf Invite

City High had its winning streak end with a loss top top-ranked Cedar Falls on Tuesday.
The Little Hawks didn’t have to wait long to bounce back.
Class 5A No. 12 City High went 4-2 at the Bettendorf Invitational on Saturday improving to 16-12 on the season.
City High earned wins over Class 4A No. 9 Nevada (21-18, 21-7), Rock Island, Il (21-9, 21-7), Clinton (21-14, 21-15) and Muscatine (21-8, 2-11) on Saturday.
Both of the losses for City High game to ranked opponents.
City High fell to 5A No. 9 Bettendorf 21-13, 21-17 and to 5A fourth-ranked Ankeny (21-19, 24-22).
Alexa Aldrich-Ingram led City High with 47 kills and 44 assists in the six matches while Shannon James added 20 kills and 25 digs.
Ellie Evans had 19 kills and Sydney Schroder led the Little Hawks with 58 assists.
Grace Brown had 56 digs for City High.

City High Defeats Waterloo, Falls to Cedar Rapids Kennedy

City High defeated Waterloo and fell to Cedar Rapids Kennedy in a Mississippi Valley Conference triangular meet in Cedar Rapids on Tuesday.
Junior Clara Froeschner won the 200 freestyle in 2:15.47 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:16.22 to lead City High.
Laura Lorenger won the 200 meter individual medley in a time of 2:26.49 for the Little Hawks.

With nine ranked teams, including seven in the top eight of their respective classes, the Mississippi Valley Conference is once again loaded with talented teams.
Cedar Falls showed on Tuesday why they just may be the best of that group.
The Class 5A top-ranked Tigers rolled to a 25-12, 25-14, 25-16 sweep of No. 12 City High in a Mississippi Valley Conference Valley Division match in Iowa City.
Grace Burken and Taylor Lynch each had 12 kills as Cedar Falls improved to 27-2 on the season with its 14th straight win.
Emily Clapp, Cynthia Wolf and Claire Gerdes each had seven kills as the Tigers recorded their 13th sweep during their current 14-match winning streak.
Alexa Aldrich Ingram had seven mills and 12 assists for City High (12-9) which lost for just the second time in its last nine matches.
Shannon James and Shannon Stamp each had five kills for City High and Grace Brown had 14 digs for the Little Hawks.

Dodge Wins Individual Title at Bud Williams Invitational

Matthew Dodge won the individual title to lead City High to a first place team finish at the Bud Williams Invitational on Thursday at Kicker Soccer Park in Iowa City.
Dodge won in a time of 16:39.6, more than three seconds faster than runner-up Ryan Millikin of Pekin.
City High placed three runners in the top five and had all seven runners finish in the top ten on its way to the team title with 25 points.
Pekin was second with 48 and Cedar Rapids Jefferson was third with 79.
Michael Berg placed fourth in 16:47.1 for City High while Michael Taylor finished fifth in 16:53.7.

The City High girls cross country team had six runners place in the top 10 and cruised to the team title at the Bud Williams Invitational on Thursday at Kickers Soccer Park in Iowa City.
Class 4A fourth-ranked City High got a runner-up finish from sophomore Anna Lindower and finished with 20 points, 33 in front of second place Ottuwa.
Lindower finished second in 19:26.4 just more than 12 seconds behind individual champion Kylie Latham of Ottumwa.
Emily Bywater placed third for City High while Esti Brady was fourth, Kinsee Brands was fifth and Annie Rummelhart was sixth.
Bridget Brown added a ninth place finish for City High.

Another day, another win over a ranked team for City High.
Class 5A No. 12 City High won for seventh time in its last eight matches with a 12-25, 27-25, 25-22, 25-17 win over Class 4A second-ranked Marion (17-6) on Thursday in Marion.
City High improved to 12-9 on the season with its fifth win over a ranked team since last Saturday.
Alexa Aldrich-Ingram led City High with17 kills, 28 assists and 18 digs.
Shannon James had 13 kills and 12 digs in the while Ellie Evans and Shannon Stamp each had nine kills.
Sydney Schroder had 24 assists for City High while Grace Brown had 32 digs and McKenzie Ribble added 15 digs.
Isabella Sade had a match-high 22 kills to lead Marion.
