City High Rolls to Win over Cedar Rapids Jefferson

City High won the first five matches and cruised to a 47-21 win over Cedar Rapids Jefferson in a Mississippi Valley Conference dual on Thursday at City High.

The Little Hawks recorded six pins while collecting nine wins on Thursday to improve to 10-4 on the season and 2-1 in MVC duals.

Jefferson dropped to 3-3 and 3-2 in the MVC.

Garrett Bormann and Ethan Wood-Finley got City High started with back-to-back pins at 106 and 113 pounds.

Joey Harney (132), Wilfred Kadohou (152), Jacob Dykes (195) and Jordain Buckland (220) all added pins for City High.

City High Cruises Past Cedar Rapids Jefferson in MVC Dual

City High won every event on its way to a 119-43 win over Cedar Rapids Jefferson in a Mississippi Valley Conference dual on Tuesday in Cedar Rapids.

Junior Eric Thomas and freshman Louis Stephan and Forrest Frazier all won a pair of individual events to lead City High.

Thomas won the 200 freestyle in 1:58.33 and the 500 freestyle in 5:06.82.

Stephan claimed the 100 freestyle in 53.69 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:05.31 while Forrest Frazier finished first in the 50 freestyle in 23.44 and added a title in the 100 butterfly in a time of 57.13.

Brennan Hill won the 100 backstroke in 1:02.56 and senior Ryan Van Daele finished first in the 200 intermediate medley in 2:38.47.

The Little Hawks defeated Des Moines Lincoln 50-27, Des Moines Roosevelt 67-10 and Woodward-Granger 66-15.

City High Swimmers go 1-1 at Home Double Dual

City High split a Mississippi Valley Conference double dual with Cedar Rapids Washington and Waterloo on Tuesday at Mercer Park Aquatic Center in Iowa City.

The Little Hawks defeated Waterloo 109-61 and fell to Cedar Rapids Washington 89-81.

Freshman Forrest Frazier picked up a pair of individual titles to pace City High and was a part of a pair of first place relay teams for the Little Hawks.

Frazier won the 100 butterfly in 54.33 and the 100 backstroke in 54.0 and was a part of the winning 400 freestyle and 200 medley relay teams.

Junior Eric Thomas won the 200 IM in 2:05.73 and freshman Louis Stephan won the 100 breaststroke in 1:03.7 for City High.

City High Improves to 8-0 With Win over Cedar Rapids Jefferson

Stuck between a win over cross-town rival and third-ranked West High last week and the beginning of the holiday break, a matchup with Cedar Rapids Jefferson fit the category of a trap game for City High.

The second-ranked Little Hawks weren’t about to fall into that trap on Tuesday.

Ashley Joens poured in a game-high 27 points as City High closed the 2016 portion of its schedule unbeaten with a 65-42 win over Cedar Rapids Jefferson at City High.

The win was the eighth straight to open the season for City High while Cedar Rapids Jefferson dropped to 4-5 in a non-conference meeting of Mississippi Valley Conference members.

Aubrey Joens had 12 points and Rose Nkumu chipped in with 10 as nine different Little Hawks scored.

Kennedy Dighton led Cedar Rapids Jefferson with 13 points.

City High Wraps Up Competion at Battle of Waterloo

City High went 1-2 on the final day of the Battle of Waterloo on Saturday falling to Class 1A No. 5 Don Bosco 36-33 and Denver-Tripoli 39-30 and defeating Davenport Assumption.

Wilfred Kadohou, Kyle Hefley, Brock Hunger and Jacob Dykes all had two wins for City High on Saturday.

Ashley Joens Cracks 1,000 Career Points in Win over Dubuque Senior

City High picked up a win on Friday night and Ashley Joens made a little bit of history in the process.

Joens poured in a game-high 27 points to surpass the 1,000-point mark for her career as Class 5A second-ranked City High remained unbeaten with an 84-64 win over Dubuque senior.

Aubrey Joens added 19 points and Kenya Earl added 12 as City High improved to 7-0 on the season and 5-0 in Mississippi Valley Conference play.

With her 27 points on Friday Ashley Joens became the seventh player in City High history to reach 1,000 points and the first to do it as a junior.

Joens now has 1,010 points in 53 career games, an averaging of 19.1 points per game.

Hannah Bakey had 15 points to lead Dubuque Senior which dropped to 1-7 on the season and 1-4 in MVC play.
